Shaima’s Unbroken Spirit
My name is Shaima Raed Ahmed Abu Amra, a second-year law student at the University of Palestine, living in Rafah, Gaza Strip. As a Palestinian, I have faced extraordinary and heart-wrenching circumstances. My family, friends, and I have endured unimaginable hardships, witnessing the relentless cruelty of the occupation against the people of Gaza. We have lived through difficult days and long nights filled with fear and uncertainty, never knowing what the next moment might bring.
Despite the grim reality in Gaza, where power outages, internet disruptions, and repeated displacements are a part of daily life, my determination to pursue education has remained unwavering. Like many students in Gaza, the struggle to learn amidst such adversity became our everyday challenge. Yet, despite these obstacles, I never ceased searching for new opportunities and clinging to the hope of fulfilling my dreams for a better future.
One day, I heard about An-Najah National University's initiative to support students in Gaza. Filled with hope, I eagerly joined their program. Completing the first phase was a beacon of light in my life, with the curriculum and teaching methods thoughtfully adapted to our harsh reality. By the grace of God, I was accepted into the second phase of the program. This experience has been profoundly uplifting, renewing my hope and belief in the possibility of continuing my education.
This journey has not only been a testament to my resilience but also a symbol of hope for many students in Gaza. It shows that with determination, perseverance, and a little support, we can overcome even the most daunting challenges to pursue our dreams and reclaim our right to education.
