The Technical Education Support for Higher Education Students Initiative (TESI) is a collaborative effort established by An-Najah National University in partnership with the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED). We are dedicated to providing vital educational support to university students in Gaza whose studies have been disrupted by the ongoing war in Gaza and the devastating effects of the war.

Mission

Our mission is to empower Gaza university students to complete their education by providing access to online learning, virtual classrooms, and offline materials. Supported by international partnerships and local collaborations, we foster an environment conducive to educational resilience in the Gaza Strip.

Vision

TESI envisions a collaborative global effort to support the educational aspirations of students in Gaza. By leveraging digital technologies and global collaboration, we aim to create innovative virtual learning solutions that enable Gazan students to continue their education and contribute to the long-term rebuilding of Gaza’s educational infrastructure.

Our Story

The recent war in Gaza has led to the massive destruction of cultural, historical, and academic properties, including universities, schools, libraries, and archival institutions. This has created an environment lacking the basic necessities of life and services. The educational sector has been hit particularly hard: 70% of schools and universities have been destroyed or damaged, resulting in losses of over $720 million, according to the International Monetary Fund. Consequently, 90,000 university students have lost access to education, with universities' databases destroyed and their websites blocked.

Faced with this urgent crisis, it became clear that immediate intervention was necessary to ensure Gazan students could continue their education. In response, An-Najah National University and UNIMED – the Mediterranean Universities Union – launched the Technical Education Support for Higher Education Students Initiative (TESI) in February 2024. TESI aims to empower Gaza students to complete their university education remotely as visiting students, with no financial burden on them or their respective universities.

We have collectively formed a front of expertise, comprising academics, administrative staff, and scholars, all volunteering to serve this just cause and assist students in Gaza in pursuing their higher education. Since its inception, TESI has quickly gained momentum, with numerous international universities joining forces to address this evolving crisis.

By leveraging digital technologies and forging local and international partnerships, TESI provides innovative virtual learning solutions that enable Gazan students to pursue their educational paths and foster educational resilience in the Gaza Strip.
